4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it claims, but bigger than expected, August 14, 2006
This review is from: CycleOps Riser Block for Indoor Bicycle Trainers (Sports)
Strangely, I ordered the riser block, but received the climbing block in the mail. Not that it matters, same price, same overall function. This product does exactly what it claims, and honestly, I don't think the CycleOps trainer can be used comfortably without it. If your front wheel isn't propped up on something, you'll be in an oddly downward facing position at all times, which I can't imagine would be desirable. One complaint would be that the different slots for the tire aren't marked or numbered in any way to let you know which setting you've used, so I feel like everytime I set up the trainer, I need to spin the block around and sit the bike in it, then look at the angle the bike is at, then reposition if necessary. It's just molded plastic, is it too difficult to have a little number 1, 2 and 3 set into it somewhere? Sort of annoying, but aside from that, the block is good. It even helps keep the bike upright while you're playing around properly securing the back wheel to the... Read more

This is a great accessory to use with my Mag Trainer. It has different levels for training. Even thou I use mine mainly because I have bad knees and riding helps keep the pain out and my knees from getting stiff. This product was a good investment.

This product does indeed do what it is supposed to do. It was definitely larger than I expected, but it makes no real difference. And indeed, they could have placed some numbers or something to indicate the angle increments, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I'll give it high points for durability, though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some glitches, but works OK, January 3, 2007

I've had this stand for over a year now. Took about five minutes to get it together. Held my 26" mountain bike just fine. I recently bought a new 26" MTB with disc brakes. The good news is that the disc rotors 'just barely' clear the support arms on this stand. You do have to futz with the bike's position on the stand a bit or the bike will 'lean' slightly on the rotor, but it isn't that hard to make it work. The bad news is that the support arm pairs are too close together to allow two mountain bikes of the same frame size to coexist peacefully in the same orientation. With front wheels inserted into the frame the handlebars clash big time. It works better if one bike has the front wheel in the frame and the other the rear wheel. The handlebar of one bike will still contact the seat of the other bike, but a simple turn of the handlebar on the outward-facing bike fixes this. This stand was obviously designed for two road bikes side-by-side, not MTBs. It would probably also be OK with... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid and useful, August 6, 2003

This review is from: Racor PBS-2R Two-Bike Floor Bike Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
This Racor unit is pretty much the same thing you'll see in bicycle shops. It's solidly made, and heavy enough to keep a pair of bikes standing upright.

Who needs it? Anyone with kids, I think. Getting kids to park their bikes somewhere that (1) you won't back over them with the car (2) you won't trip over them coming out of the house is always a struggle; just getting them to do something other than simply drop them on the ground where they got off can be a major task.

This stand makes that task just a little easier by providing a fixed place to stash the bikes with little or no effort. Place one on the back porch and one in the garage and you'll always know where the bikes are. Oh, and if you're an adult with a lot of bike riding friends, place one or two by your side door. Your friends will appreciate it!

1.0 out of 5 stars doesn't fit disc brakes, December 6, 2007

Doesn't fit my 26 inch mountain bike. If I put the front tire in it hits the disc brake, If I put the back tire in it hits the derailleur. It looks like it is sturdy and would work well with other types of bikes, just wanted to let people with disc brakes know that they should pick a different stand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price, February 7, 2011

This review is from: RAD Cycle Products MAX RIDER PRO Italian Bike Trainer with Remote Shifter For Professional Work Out Indoors! (Misc.)
Ordered this for my wife who wanted to ride her bike in the house since she ahs some foot problems and walking made it worse.
The trainer is very well made and assembly took a few minutes. the first issue I had was the Butterfly nut, which holds the clamp so it doesn't back out when in use, was cracked. I called and left a message to the vender and after not hearing back from them I sent a email. After requesting some info I received the replacement part in the mail a few days later. Replaced the part and it is good as new.
My wife has ridden her bike on the trainer for 20 to 30 minutes a day 5 days a wek since we received it a few weeks ago. No issues with it whatsoever. Yes it makes noise, but so do all trainers.
At one time I owned a bike and ski shop and sold trainers and this one is as good as some that I sold for more than twice the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Need some adjustment, January 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: RAD Cycle Products MAX RIDER PRO Italian Bike Trainer with Remote Shifter For Professional Work Out Indoors! (Misc.)
I bought the trainer because the price; it is unbelievable $60.

The noise it create is notable but my bike seem to be more noise. I have a old road bike with 700c wheels (with slip tire surface), the sound is not mainly comes from the tire, but from the freewheel and chain. So be sure you have smooth rotating system in your bike, which can reduce the noise and, more importantly, the vibration create from your bike.

The trainer is quite sturdy and easy to lock your bike on. However, the assembly of the trainer is poor. After I ride it for 10 min, I heard scratch sound from the roller. That is because there is a hex loosen due to centrifuge force; I screwed it back and solve the problem. Moreover, I found out the the alignment of the trainer is not right, which makes my bike skewed. I padded it with some corrugated paper to solve it, that is about 1 cm.

People who want to buy the product have to concern about vibration problem, especially for whom... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Probably not worth more than $80, February 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: RAD Cycle Products MAX RIDER PRO Italian Bike Trainer with Remote Shifter For Professional Work Out Indoors! (Misc.)
I bought this for $80, and on the surface it seemed to be a tremendous value.

When I took it out of the box to set the trainer up, i immediately broke a piece of the butterfly "crank" that's needed to firmly attach your bike to the trainer. It's made of extremely brittle plastic, and the simple act of loosening it shattered one of the 4 clamps. The crank still holds in place, due to the other 3 clamps, but was not inspiring.

The second issue I experienced (once again, before even using the trainer) is that the shifter is not a quick "snap on" to the handlebars. The bracket the shifter is attached to does not separate, so to put this thing on your handlebars you'll have to remove the braking assembly, your stock shifter, and (in my case) the handlebar grips. I ended up attaching it to one of my gear lines and it just kind of dangles off the fork.

As other reviews mentioned, this thing is loud. Shop-Vacuum cleaner loud if you really get moving. I... Read more
